Since 2009 the first version of rekordbox was released. Since then its popularity is increased immensely. Today, rekordbox is a highly rated DJ software used by a lot of professionals.
Rekordbox is a product of Pioneer itself, which makes you wonder why some Pioneer DJ controllers are not compatible with rekordbox. I guess they did this to offer their products to a wider range of people, like Serato DJ fans.
You can download rekordbox in the download section of the rekordbox website. Before you can use rekordbox you’ll have to subscribe and choose a plan.

Serato DJ
Pioneer is compatible with Serato DJ, one of the best and most popular DJ software in the world. Serato launched their first product in 1999, so they have been in the game for a long time.
The Serato DJ department was first released in 2013. Their DJ software, back then hust Serato DJ, turned into two different DJ software, Serato DJ Lite and Serato DJ Pro.
Serato DJ Lite is the lighter, and easier version of the two. It’s much more geared toward beginner DJs, because it’s easier to use compared to the Serato DJ Pro software. If you’re a beginner DJ just starting to learn your DJ software and DJ gear, I recommend using Serato DJ Lite.
Serato DJ Pro comes with a lot more features. In my opinion, a very good choice of DJ software for more advanced DJs with Pioneer DJ controllers.

Virtual DJ
In its origin, Virtual DJ is a French company. It was established in 1996 un der the name Atomix Productions. Virtual DJ has been spreading their offices worldwide since then.
Virtual DJ offers a free version for DJs that DJ without a DJ controller. When you connect your VirtualDJ with a DJ controller you will have to pay for a license of $49 or $99 depending on your DJ controller.
They also have a VirtualDJ Pro version. A VirtualDJ Pro license will cost you $19 per month, a one-time purchase will cost you $299.
Virtual DJ also offers a business license, which is the most expensive one and will cost you $99 per month.

Traktor
Traktor DJ exists as a brand for over 20 years now. Its owned by Native Instruments that was founded in Berlin in 1996. Today, it has offices in Berlin, Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Shenzhen.
Traktor also offers DJ controllers, mixers, and many more other DJ and producer products.
The DJ software that Traktor offers for your Pioneer DJ controller is called Traktor DJ Pro. Traktor Pro 3 is the latest version of the Traktor Pro software.
You can download Traktor Pro from the Native Instruments website for $113 (full puchase). If you’re updating from an older version it will cost you a little bit less; about $55.

Conclusion
Pioneer used to be all about promoting their own DJ software, Rekordbox. Today, they seem to lean toward Serato as well. I think its a good move, because Serato is very popular too. While I’m a big fan of Serato DJ, Rekordbox is also a great DJ software and in my opinion, both choices are great. Virtual DJ is also a good option when you want to try something else.
