When buying a DJ table, it’s important to get the right height. It can cause serious postural problems if you practice DJing a lot. So when you buy a DJ table, you need to pick one that will suit your own height. The right height DJ table will make you feel much more comfortable when you’re DJing. So how high should a DJ table be for your height?
The right height of a DJ table or booth can be measured by pressing your elbow against your side and bending your arm to make a 90-degree angle. Your DJ table including the DJ deck should be right under your arm. This height of your DJ table will be safest for your back and neck.
A lot of DJs don’t care about the height of a DJ table except that it should be at a height that makes it easy to DJ. While that is also important, the consequences of working with a DJ table that is too low can take the fun away pretty quickly. Read the rest of this post to find out the perfect height for you.
The Right DJ Table for Your Height
What you have to aim for is that you won’t have to bend your back or neck too much to be able to DJ. Actually preferably you shouldn’t have to bend your back or neck at all.
Below you’ll find a table that will tell you how high your DJ table should be according to your height.

Some DJ table heights might not be available. In that case, you could also try standing on a platform or something else that you can stand on.
If you’re too tall you could elevate your DJ equipment a little bit by putting it on a box for example.
Why the Height of Your DJ Table is Important
Standing on that platform and performing live to a crowd can be taxing on your body. So DJing doesn’t require you to just practice and maintain your DJing skills, it also means taking care of your physical health.
If you’ve ever worked at a desk, you’ll probably know the pain of working behind a desk and looking at a monitor that is not set at the right height. You’ll feel neck and back pain pretty soon when you’re working like that for a long period of time.
A DJ table is just the same. When it’s set too low you can hurt your back and neck. Going on for too long with a DJ table that is too low can even get chronic back and neck pain.
You might need some time to get used to a DJ table that has a good height when you’ve been DJing on a table that is too low. Don’t fall into the trap that the low one is easier to DJ with because everything gets easier when you’re used to it. Just give it some time.
If you’re serious about becoming a DJ and you’re planning to practice a lot, buying a DJ table with the right height is very important.

DJ Booth Setup
It’s time to leave the kitchen table or kitchen bar and move on to a more professional space where you can actually practice your DJ skills in a professional and safe way.
A DJ booth includes your Dj controller, a laptop stand, and your laptop. If you want you can add some speakers as well.
DJ controllers are not necessary to DJ but I’ve never met someone that wanted to DJ without one.
If you don’t have one yet, here are a few DJ controllers that I recommend for beginners. When you click on the image or the blue link it will take you to the amazon product page in a new window.
I love this one because it is compatible with the Serto DJ lite software, which is a wonderful DJ software for beginners.
The Numark Party Mix was my first DJ controller and I never had any regrets about buying this one.
The DJ controller is simple because it’s geared toward beginners who want to learn the basics. Perfect if you’re a bedroom DJ at the moment.
A great DJ controller for beginners who have been practicing the basic skills and need to move on to a slightly more advanced DJ controller. It’s a very clear DJ controller that you will quickly learn how to use. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and I love it.
On a correctly installed DJ setup, your laptop should be higher than your DJ controller or mixer. You’ll need a laptop stand to do this.
The perfect laptop stand should be adjustable in height. I’ve found one on amazon that would be suited for a DJ booth.
A good DJ laptop should have a lot of processing and memory capabilities for the DJ software to perform at an optimal level and to store all your music.
A lot of DJs have a huge preference for MacBooks because of their top-quality performance and memory capabilities.
As a beginner, you don’t need to buy the most expensive ones and you shouldn’t. What you should do though is look for a laptop, preferably a MacBook that is capable of handling low to medium use of DJ software.
I’ve been using a MacBook Air for all my gigs since I was a beginner. The price is great for beginner DJs because it is not too expensive but it gets the job done very well. It is easy and light to carry with me and easy to store and what I also love about this edition is the color.
I was DJing at home about 3-4 days a week and DJing at a club about once a month with this one. It did the job very well. I was very much in love with it. Click on the image to find out the specifications on the product page of amazon.
When you’re DJing from home you can use the speakers of your laptop if you want to. When you want to have good quality sound coming out of your speakers though I recommend buying some good ones for your DJ booth.
I don’t know about you but, I love a good quality sound. You work hard to practice and make your music sound really good and smooth. Some great speakers will complement your work. Here is my favorite DJ speaker:
The height of a DJ table is very important for your physical health. Make sure you buy the right for you. If you’re having doubts about the height of your DJ table, buy an adjustable DJ table so you can change it and test out multiple heights.
